Post Feed?
I am new to Gamefowl and would appreciate some help on the issue of properly feeding. I.E. chicks,Stags, cocks, pullets, layers?Should they all be fed differently. How much. Also for best feed conditioning to bring out the best in my Cocks.Any and all info will be tried and appreciated. I dont want my birds potentials diminished by my lack of proper care and feeding. Thanks

i use chick crumb up to about 8-10 weeks then start to introduce crushed wheat which i do in a blender, then after a couple of weeks i change to pellets and crushed wheat, then 1 part pellets to 3 parts wheat then after a year or so ill change it to half and half.

i think if you look through this forum here (Nutrition) you will find lots of info already discussed on feeding already..but i'm sure lots will chime in on what they do with their fowl as well. It's important to feed in stages..for nutritional development..especially when they are chicks if you are rearing them artificially (not with broodies).

if i were you I would not go mixing stuff like horse feed..and especially cat food..and rabbit pellets have too much salt in them. If you can get a decent gamefowl mix at your mill or farmstore then i suggest you go with that. They have people employed that are edjucated to properly mix these feeds believe it or not. Fowl need properly mixed rations with vitamins and trace minerals. When you go mixing them yourself you just end up cheating them in one way or another..you end up having to add this or that. Unless you live in an area that you cannot get commercially balanced feed I wouldn't do that.

Best advise i could give u in feed a gamecock feed 16% protetin and 12% fat thats fairly clean from dust and trash. As far as feeding stags and pullets they need more feed than u would feed a mature hen or cock. I feed mine somewhere around 3 ounces daily. Condtioning wise theres millions of diff keeps to feed roosters. Me personally i dont change my feed very much in the keep others do. Go to fowlplay.com they hav a list of keeps on there site that u can get ideas from but each roosters is diff some need more conditioning feed etc. You have to learn from expericance. Also if u cant get a get a gamecock feed try scratch feed a 3 grain scratch 21% dog feed bite size, maybe some baby hog pellets or calf manna if u dont have access to green grass a lil alfafa pellets added would be good but in mixing feeds u cant get it mixed properly thats the draw back in mixing ur own feed
