Post Illegal breeds?????????
Are there any breeds that are actuall illegal to just own? I've been looking into getting a couple of different breeds of gamefowl and the last thing I need is to get myself into hot water. The reason I'm asking is because of a post I just read on BYC. They are talking about a taxidermy speciman. I figure if anyone would know the laws someone on here would. Personally I think that thread is full of myths and misconceptions. I don't know beans about the old sport but from looking at the length of the spurs I would guess it died from old age.

It is not illegal to own gamefowl, as long as you abide by your state laws.

BYC...myths and misconceptions...no, can't be... :say ...

Cuda is spot on, raising fowl of any kind is legal, what you do have to watch is local laws like housing and ordinances, but these apply to all breeds.

Here (netherlands) it's not illegal to keep them either, just using them for fights is illegal. Though there are rumors that Belgium law wants to forbid keeping gamefowl period...that would be the end of Belgian game and neglecting their heritage.

I'd love to get a breeding pair of those beauties b4 the laws make them exstinct. Awesome fowl!

There is only one way to tell if a chicken is game or not! Since it is illegal to fight them , it would be impossible for them to prove anyone owns a game chicken. :moon

You know this is the best offensive defense I have heard of... There have been many places being raided that the birds are being killed because they are gamefowl. So if they were not being fought how could be considered gamefowl. I think this is going to be my tag .... If you dont mind.
