Thats because its a bantam Buster. It is a shame about the tail as otherwise good looking bird, how old is it.

Re: SUMATRA BANTUM, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
he is maybe 6 months old, if i could put the tail off the other one on him he would be a really nice bird. his tail is better than the picture shows but not quite long enough. but between them i will make some nice ones (and obviously some hens too)

Re: SUMATRA BANTUM, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Here in the US all the bantam Sumatras are too large to me. Even the Std. Sumatras are much larger than they should be. Americans like big things and it tends to show in their birds. Of course, when it comes to bantams they seem to be fascinated with the smallest too. So, maybe it would be more accurate to say that Americans are fascinated with EXTREMES! doc

great little bird. Looks like the comb and face are nice and dark. Btw Doc, you hit the nail on the head. Americans love extremes. Can anyone else remember when silkies could see? Vidal

Re: SUMATRA BANTUM, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Same here, bantam Sumatra are mostly too large for bantam. Give him some time to mature MoghtyMohan, Sumatra takes well into their second lifeyear to grow their body. After the first molt you will have a sure idea what his tail is like. For 6 mos. he looks well developed allready to me. silkies here can see too, though some need help with reproducing, they trim the feathers around the roo's cloaca in that case ..ouch
