Post Skunk
What do you do to get rid of skunk odor.. Not only on yourself but in the air after you take your clothes off and walk into the house. I shot three the other day at a 15 ft distant bc they were sitting in my coop and I had to bury them to prevent odor outside... BUt now I smell like SKUNK.

well, when my hounds or terriers got skunked, I poured and rubbed in regular white vinegar on them, let it soak for a couple hours, and then just hosed them off. Knocked probably 80% of the smell off them.

Tomato juice is old remedy. I'd TRY spraying chlorox claen-up on your skin, NOT FACE, rinse and repeat. Used well, it cuts the hell out of human odor before hunting. Rinse well. Last year, I was to far away from the welcome wagon on the back porch, but had my water hose on and within 3ft, so out sprayed two, but back to back, not simultanious . Yes it was in the air somewhat but not bad. My wife just noticed that she thought she could smell skunk. I use a large diameter water hose, and keep the pressure high as the differentail switch will adjust(just under 70 psi). Aim where the sun don't shine, jet will stop and cause to go else where as required.

I did a google search and mixed hydrogen peroxide x baking soda x dawn dish soap and that worked real well... The smell was gone on me... Just one shower with that stuff with some good scrubbing and I came out skunkless...

You actually shot a skunk at 15 feet?!

Brother, you deserve to STINK!

Don't ever do that again. Leave them alone. They will leave. Then set out poison and sardines: much more effective without the odour.

I always have to burn them when I shoot them, otherwise the stink lingers for a long time, unless you have a backhoe or something that can dig down 4 or 5 feet deep or more.

Razor, You need to practice your shooting. Ive shot tons of skunks with no scent let off. You have to kill them quick. Only once did I shoot one that let go and thats because the truck was still rolling. Now when I first started trapping at a young age of 9 I caught a skunk in a leg hold. Armed with a club and a burlap sack for protection I tried to get close enough to dispatch the critter. Needless to say, I got hammered. Im talking wet soaked. I dropped the sack and killed the skunk. I thought I was going to die. I could hardly catch my breath. I caught hell when I got home had to take a bath with the hose in CT, in Oct. I soon learned how to kill them proper when I got a 22. My Dad always liked the distant smell of a skunk. Said it was a holsome one. Unlike the stench of a dead critter. I kinda have to agree with him. But up close It will take your wind away.
