If word got round that you wont shoot thieves and you have good chickens what do you think might happen? Dogs don't scare some people. I have raised pit bulls for 20 years. Most other dog breeds I laugh at, they just bark, so what. Thieves are brazen, that's why they're in your backyard at night. Here in Texas you have the right to shoot thieves ONLY at night if you believe you will not be able to recover your property.
