Its hard to say..but I have heard that Dom birds, or cocks that look like hawks have a certain advantage with birds that seem to fear Hawks in hawk infested areas...:)..just put nets over everything.

I give the crows around my place the eggs out of the incubator that didn't develop or died in the shell, they get something a couple of times a week and they really do help. Especially for those little hawks that get in the woods unseen. My chickens know when the crows get going to watch out and then the guineas start rasing cain. The guineas might would attack a hawk. They attacked a feral cat a few weeks ago and they attacked the neighbors chickens that wandered up to my house through the woods yesterday. Crows and guineas help. I still need a GP though.

I had one chick taken last year by a small sharp shin hawk. He was a sneaky little bugger. He would fly really low just over the fences and dive at the chicks if they were in the open. Until, he caught a pellet.

But mainly the crows nesting and roosting in my neighbors palm trees than take care of the coopers and redtails hawks in the air. Plus, I started leaving my sun loving 8yr old boxer out more during the day. The dude takes day long naps in the middle of the yard or patio so he probably detours any birds that get pass the hawks by just lying there. :D Havent lost another bird since I let old Bosco take his naps in the yard.
