 Re: Sigh....predator control
We were out working on pens the other day and my young pyrenees took off barking, I assumed he was telling the neighbors cattle across the road to back off...that's what he usually does. I looked over just to see and he was chasing a hawk, I was pretty happy with him, as he's gotten older I've seen less hawks around my place.

 Re: Sigh....predator control
vetgirl, I have no experience with such dogs, but I have had cocks nail hawks, I let my Hammer out just to that end, but chickens will not protect your hens and young birds, but real gamecocks will, but your pens have to be set up to not permit him or others from damaging themself badly by "pen fighting" through the wire.

 Re: Sigh....predator control
Well I guess I"m on the list for a GP and until then I put up my smaller birds, only let big birds out. Even the smallest is too big for a hawk - or it will at least put up a hell of a fight. I have some game eggs in the bator so maybe I will get a good mean rooster out of them to protect something lol
